OPEN LETTER
September 16, 2026
President Donald J. Trump
The White House
1600 Pennsylvania Avenue NW
Washington, DC 20500

Dear President Trump,

For much of my life, I honored our veterans with respect and gratitude. But over time, I came to realize something that stayed with me: many veterans are standing beside us every day, and yet too often they go unseen.

They are in our neighborhoods, our workplaces, our stores, our schools, and our communities. They served this country, but after the uniform comes off, their service can become invisible.

That is why I founded Dog Tag Day.

Dog Tag Day is observed each year on April 18. Its purpose is simple but powerful: encourage veterans, active-duty service members, and military families to wear or display their dog tags, share the stories behind them, and remind this nation that service should never disappear into the background.

Dog tags say, “I served.”
Dog Tag Day says, “We see you.”

Our mission is built on a simple belief: veterans should be seen, heard, and remembered while they are still here to tell their stories.

Mr. President, I respectfully ask for your help in bringing national attention to Dog Tag Day and the message behind it. Recognition of April 18 would help shine a light on veterans and their families across this country and remind Americans that those who served should never become invisible.

Thank you for your time and consideration.

Respectfully,

Ronnie Shure
